The vinyl resale market uses the goldmine grading standard which provides grades mint to poor with about 6 ratings in between depending on condition.

The truth is that most records especially from before the 1970s are not in anything close to mint or near mint condition. The wear should be minimal and of course should play mint. An excellent ex or vg condition for vinyl will allow minor scuffs which are visible but only slightly.

There may be more than a few so be careful not call a record that has wear to more than 15 of the surface. Look for a neutral ph. Discs with these ratings often have major noise issues. Labels may have minor imperfections small labels or initials etc but otherwise clean.

Records in lesser condition are worth a fraction of the near mint prices. There are no marks on the vinyl and the whole package is complete. To determine the condition a vinyl record you must grade it visually and in most cases play grade the record to give it one of eight ratings. That is why a collector will pay a premium for such a disc if he or she has to have it.

There will be no skips. They skip repeat and reveal scratching noises often. Near mint nm the record has been on a shelf between other records. Vg very good vinyl will have noticeable scratches or scuffs that cause minor surface noise but do not overpower the music.

Not only does it help to clean and condition the seats it leaves a deep richer color behind. Before using a leather conditioner for the first time do a spot test on an inconspicuous part of the item to make sure it won t damage or discolor the leather. Protect against sun damage.
