I have an 81 vanagon.
Vanagon sliding door adjustment.
Is it leaking at the back.
To fix your van door and make it open smoothly get some spray oil like tri flow and spray oil on all the rollers top middle and bottom.
I need some advice on how to adjust the sliding door rear side so that the door lines up with the body panel.
I had to pound and pound and pound on the thing with a block mallet to the point i thought i was surely going to bend stuff.
I have an 86 vanagon sliding door that has always had trouble closing staying closed.
Next open the door and support it working in my carport i used some tires when i work on the sliding door i use my floor jack under the sill this also allows for adjustment of the door for final assembly.
The placement in the door and the hinge is differnet than the one in the pictures.
Good thing i was repainting that cover anyway.
Once the rollers on.
Front of sliding door fits flush with front.
Would love to have some advice.
The hardest part of the whole process was getting the sliding door track cover off.
Currently it has a good flush alignment in the front but the rear sticks out around 15mm from the body panel.
To move the door more forward or backward there is one bolt behind the interior door panel that lets you adjust the fore aft position a bit.
Most minivans use a similar system.
Those would 2 different adjustments.
After that door removal itself is pretty easy with a helper.
Easiest adjustment is the big bolt on the rear frame center area of door that the latch mates with when door is closed.
Are the gaps in front and back with the door closed about the same width.
